Artist
To create an ocean, you have to get an ocean inside of you.Denis Siniauski (1975–2022), known professionally as Denis Blueman, was an artist born in Minsk. His practice encompassed painting, architectural projects, relief and design. In his later paintings, developed in Tenerife, the ocean and the volcanic landscape became central subjects and sources of material.
His studies at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts began in 1992. From the turn of the century, he worked on architectural projects, murals and reliefs in Belarus, Poland and Italy. An interest in water and the human environment developed alongside his experience of sailing and diving.
From 2010, journeys across the Black Sea, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic informed his understanding of colour, light and space. Working in Tenerife from 2015, he incorporated natural earth, seawater and volcanic sand into his paintings.
Horizons and expanses of colour recur throughout his paintings. Granular surfaces contrast with fluid passages of paint, connecting the image of a landscape with the materials from which it is made.

Denis Blueman died in October 2022. This archive is dedicated to the study and preservation of his work.
Artist Statement
The painting of Denis Siniauski, who worked under the name Denis Blueman, explores the relationship between the material qualities of landscape and inner human experience. Sailing, diving and observing nature form the foundations of his visual language. His encounter with the ocean continues through his use of colour, line and texture, giving painterly form to the spaces he has experienced.
The horizon becomes a central element of this language. It organises the canvas, establishes relationships between fields of colour and evokes a sense of space extending beyond the image. The apparent restraint of the composition concentrates attention on shifts in density, light and movement. Depth emerges through the act of looking, as the eye begins to distinguish the interplay between the paint layer and the relief of the surface.
Natural materials connect the painting to particular places. Sand and earth collected during his travels become part of the painted surface, retaining the physical presence of the landscape. In Siniauski’s artistic thinking, matter carries a memory of its origins. The drawing of paint across the surface, its adhesion to the granular ground and the transitions between smooth and rough areas give this connection a tangible form.
His practice is grounded in an attention to how the external world becomes personal experience, and how that experience can be shared. Between recognisable landscape and abstraction, space remains for the viewer’s own associations. The painting invites sustained looking: its colour and substance engage bodily memory, evoking sensations of distance, movement and stillness. Through this exchange, painting becomes a way of sensing one’s connection to the natural world.
